CRSWiki:Policy Think Tank
From CRSWiki
We have very few policies nor proposed policies yet. But, unless we come up with a better way of doing things (see discussion, which you can see and contribute to, by clicking on the "discussion" tab above), such policies will be proposed and discussed here.
One key policy question that needs to be addressed fairly quickly is currently to be found at Boundaries with Wikipedia.
Greater power to boot people
One huge problem with other wikis, especially Wikipedia, is disruptive users. I think it might be a good idea for us to give certain people more authority to block disruptive users, at the discretion of those with blocking powers. --Brian talk 2006-06-30 21:15Z
Time stamp, time zone, etc.
Can we set Wikimedia so that times stamps come as in my sig file. This is the ISO 8601 standard. And perhaps the time zone should be different from CDT? --Brian talk 2006-06-30 21:17Z P.S. Let's continue this discussion at the Technical Needs Talk Page.
Which dialect of English?
One particularly irritating thing about Wikipedia are the spelling wars. Since the majority -- indeed, very likely the vast majority -- of readers of this wiki will be Americans, it seems to me we should agree that American English should be the uniform standard for articles here. Note, this does not mean that people aren't allowed to write in whatever dialect they want to write in! It's just that, under my proposal, later editors would be assumed to have the right to change it to American English, to make the wiki more uniform.
I wouldn't object to using "logical punctuation," which is the British standard, and the standard of most European languages ("logical punctuation" is the placing of periods and commas outside quotation marks, unless what's being quoted is a whole sentence, or several sentences). But the spelling should be uniform across the wiki, seems to me. (Though an article "CR in the UK" could perhaps use British English.) --Brian talk 2006-07-02 13:16 (UTC)
